2011/2012 FIELD TRIAL RESULTS
The Committee and club members of Barton on Humber Gundog Club would like to thank Skinners for sponsoring their 2011/2012 trials. Everyone involved in the sport of gundog training is deeply indebted to Skinners for their generous support of gundog trials and working tests. It is becoming increasingly expensive to organise and take part in our sport and your help should not be underestimated.
Our 2011/2012 trials went very well starting with an excellent novice a/v spaniel trial at Stean on 5th August by kind invitation of Ian Openshaw. The trial was run on rushes and although rabbits were plentiful the dogs had to work hard to find them. The trial was won by Paul Mathews with Chinachgook Generous bred by Ian Clarke and the runner up was Sally Jenkins with a litter brother to the winner, Chinachgook Kahyasi.
The results:
1st Chinachgook Generous. Paul Mathews
2nd Chinachgook Kahyasi. Sally Jenkins
3rd Buchleuch Olive. Jon Bailey
4th Edwardiana Bedazzled. Steve Charlton
COM Saras Duchell. Neil Thorpe
Next we were at Haverholme Park, Sleaford on 15th October for a novice a/v retriever trial. The Haverholme Park Syndicate has been, very kindly, hosting a trial for us for a number of years and it is always well supported. It’s success is always dependent on some skilful judging as it is a driven trial and this trial was excellent. They started, as usual, with a duck drive. No-one can remember so many birds being shot on this drive and all the dogs were sitting in line. Amazingly not one dog succumbed to the pressure and all remained sitting calmly throughout! The judges made an excellent job of testing the dogs and the worthy winner was Verona Clatworthy with Labrador dog Swaine Distichum.
Results:
1st Swaine Distichum. Verona Clatworthy
2nd Topside Shooter. Jimmy Scoular
3rd Humbershot Ember. John Day
COM Middlegate Smart. Henrik Vilendal
Our third trial was another novice retriever trial at the Sir Richard Sutton’s Settled Estates at Stainton le Vale on 17th October. Head keeper and Steward of the Beat, Tim Moss put on a very good trial with some very testing retrieves in fodder beat and kale which in the end proved to be a little too testing as we finished up without any awards except guns choice which went to Brendan Kellywith Norbeck Santa!
We had a spaniel trial planned for October 31st but in the end we had to cancel it due to lack of entries. This was disappointing as I had run on the ground with my spaniel the week before and had a very good trial.
Our last trial was the 2 day open retriever qualifier also at Stainton le Vale on 7th & 8th November. Tim Moss again put on an excellent trial in woodland and in fodder beet. We were able to really test the dogs both in walked up and drive conditions and Helena Sully with her home bred Quabrook Keava came out the worthy winners.
1st Quabrook Keava. Helena Sully
2nd Rimrock Hurricane, Andy Latham
3rd Shadowbrae Druid of Oakshot. Graham Slater (and Gun’s Choice)
4th Spirit of Glencoe. Alf Gorman
COM Lockthorn Tara. Daniel Marx
COM Claybeck Flush. M. Jackson
